5 Highlighted things from in my Peli case
5 Highlighted things from my camera bag. First written for AP magazine
It should be clear that I don’t always travel with this much stuff. There are clearly times when I just put a Fuji in something like a Domke Hearld and head out for the day with some spare battery packs and a single lens. But, if I am working, this is my normal set up. Having three cameras and the Go-Pro mean I can shoot with a back up camera and have a camera to film BTS images for a blog. Normally I tend only carry a 35mm and a 105mm for the Nikon if I taking both the X-Pro and X-T1. If just two cameras are coming a 50mm Sigma replaces the X-pro.
Peli 1510 case with custom Trek Pak inserts.
I love this case. Since I tend to carry quite a bit of kit, I need to know it is safe. The Peli cases are the the only case that offer a total solution to looking after you kit when traveling. I love mine in yellow. It is clear and distinctive. On shoots this case is my office in which I set up the laptop & tether into using Teather tools cables.
The X-T1 is the main go to Fuji camera when working with the X-Pro being more the camera I like to play with. These days the X-T1 is paired with the XF 16-55mm & XF 50-140mm zooms and the X-Pro with the 56mm & 35mm. All the cameras have got acra swiss plates & extra hand grips. Each lens has a an adapter ring to fit my Lee Filter matte box.
The dual system of the small fast Fuji’s are balanced by the D800’s raw power. The sensor in this camera is amazing but is a slower system to use overall. At the moment I am using the global vision range of Sigma lenses on the Nikon with the exception of the 105mm which is yet to be re-released into the new range. As a rule though. The combo of a 35mm & 105mm is pretty much perfect for everything I do.
Lee Filter Kit.
My matte box & grad filters are fast becoming a vital element in my workflow. I love the way I can control the ambient light with the grads. I carry 4 filters when normally. Two 0.6 soft ND grads and two 0.9 hard ND grads. I also have a system which lets me mount all 4 filters and rotate them all independently, which is quite fun to shoot with !!
The Cactus RF60 Flash and V6 triggers with the Roundflash make up my simple lighting kit that lives in my camera case. I find it can be very useful to have a single strong flash that works across the Fuji & Nikon system in my bag at all times. I am the first to admit I really under use these amazing units as I don’t even us the TTL functions. The main reason Cactus are here is the reliability for me. The Roundflash is the smallest and most portable way to get amazing light out of a speed light. This combo is used on pretty much 70% of my portfolio.
