Another Afternoon with Jodi Lakin (Beauty Portraits)
There I was last Friday thinking to myself, gosh – I don’t have anything to shoot over the weekend ! A few moment later and Jodi and I had a shoot on…. As per normal we had nothing planned and by 10:23am Jodi was on my door step with a make up box and a beaming smile.
I had just sent back all the samples, lingerie and bits I had from other shoots but I had the idea left over from shooting the towels with Joanna (click here for the shoot with Joanna Mazur NSFW) so, that’s just what we did, but with a few more giggles…
( At the Photography Show 21st – 24th of March.. I will be talking about the editing process of this image and the workflow on the SmugMug Stand and the Fotospeed Stand
We sat around for a good two hours catching up and trying to work out what music we should have then got to shooting. I was still playing about with the Round Flash Simon had sent me and really enjoying shooting super low DOF shoots with flash. I had been a while since using low power lighting that I had very rarely shot below F8 for beauty shots. This was a great chance to open the lens up and push the Sigma 50mm even more than the shoot with Jo.
Below is *maybe* one of my all time favorite images
Sigma 50mm Art, Nikon D800 – f1.4 – 1/125th – 120iso – Round Flash + Single Speed Light
Jodi and I have been shooting for a while now and is always such a pleasure to hang out and shoot with. One of the things about Jodi is her wonderful nature and happy smile. As this year started I had set a few aims for my photography, one of those being to try and evolve my work. A few people had made comments about the static nature and lack of fun in the images, maybe coming from the way I shoot or the way I am, so it was time t break out the normal no smile rule and have some fun, who knows… I might even have some fun !!
Shooting super low depth of field required some great control of camera, lighting and for Jodi to stay very very static during the shooting process, so, for the rest of the shoot I popped up the big light and took the camera of the tripod Settings returned to a more normal studio setting and we had a bit of a giggle.
I am really looking forward even more to having some great times, great giggles and having more fun on set. I guess it is all about being comfortable and forgetting the camera is even in same room !
Thank you for another amazing shoot Jodi !
Jodi is with the Alan Sharman Agency
