Steve Coleman – Masters of street
By day I’m a journalist for the BBC, specialising in news journalism, social documentary and social media. In all other available time I’m a street photographer. My background in photography started 20 years ago when I started a video and photography business working with brands such as Nintendo and Orange Phones and also worked to brand the Liverpool based company CREAM at the height of their popularity, with briefs that included devising creative moving and still images for these products. Whilst I take street photographs using a Fuji X Pro1 and a 35mm Yashica film camera, I’m also a student of street photography as an artistic medium and a platform for social documentary. I’m a borderline geek when it comes to studying the ‘Masters of Street Photography’ and believe that through study one can truly understand and achieve great quality street style work. I write my own blog and display my work, and regularly contribute to various other blogs which specialise in this medium. I take photographs for me, for pleasure and because I’m compelled to document the place I live and the places I visit. I’m passionate about the need for street photography to be fun but at the same time understood, and I like nothing more than discussing the medium at all levels.
