Give me a call on 07707915171 or e-mail us with any questions: Dave@davepiper.co.uk
Yes, but your blog or magazine will have to agree to a few usage terms, send a request to Dave@davepiper.co.uk
Firstly if you’re a model or a company looking to test or try stuff out – we do ‘test’ so don’t be shy to ask – anything undertaken this way has a ‘strictly non-commercial usage’ agreement.
Pricing has two elements when it comes to photography. The cost to produce the images then the cost to license the images for the intended outlet. Retouching is NOT included in a standard quote – please contact for a direct quote.
Prices are linked to the amount of work and level of equipment & staffing it will take to produce your images. Normal rates start about £75ph and go upwards linked to your needs.
Prints are produced using the shopping cart on the site – just click the blue BUY button. Prints start from £5.00
Image licensing is done on a shoot to shoot basis and can be rolled into a ‘one-off fee’ for a number of years to make things simple. Licensing is important as it binds & controls the images you commission us to make to you and your needs. It’s what gives you usage rights to the images all over the world. It also provides a measure of legal protection in the event images are misused by unauthorised third parties.

Ace ! I have a super simple system to help you get hold of your images. Step one is to check your e-mail for an e-mail from me – this is a link that invites you to log in & view your images. Once logged in you will be able to comment on & download your images when ready. If you didn’t get your e-mail, just send me a note with the correct address or a new address to e-mail this link too.
If you have already made an account and have forgot your link – just head to the client area and log in – the system will direct you straight to your photos.
To comment on an image click on the photo so it’s full screen then look on the bottom left where you will see the speech bubble icon. Below is a screen grab of the icon & highlighted blue.
When you have pressed the button a pop up will appear – if you are already logged in – it will ask you just prompt you to make a comment. When you press submit, the comment will be e-mailed to me to check out.
If you have pre-paid or paying via invoice – just head to the client area, log in, find your gallery, click the download images button and enter your password. A moment later you will see a pop up telling you the site is making a zipped – downloadable link for your images. When this is ready a file of High-Res images are ready to download – watermark free.
Great ! Hit the BUY photos button – this will take you to the shopping cart. Some galleries may need to you to be a current client or have a password to let you order images.
The shopping cart lets your order images to anywhere in the world. You can pay in the currency which your order & prints are printed local to where you order too – this saves shipping images and cuts down on expensive postage & shipping costs.
This is also the place where you can pick the size or crop you need.
On the website we only offer a very small range of paper & sizes. We can print to bespoke requests up to 40inch on the small edge to 15m on the longest edge – so if you are looking for something that is not listed – just mail me and I can do a custom order for you. If your looking or a gallery or print for display – please contact me before placing your order – we can talk about getting the right paper & size to suit your needs. We are based in the West Midlands (Birmingham UK).
We can get anywhere in the UK that has a road we can travel to easily. If you’re looking for something more remote, that is not a problem either but would require extra planning. We work closely with two studios – Wolverhampton Uni & Amersham Studios which is based 40mins north of London. Both studios are fitted with Broncolor lighting & can cater for large groups / shoots. Amersham Studios is also fitted with ‘state or the art’ streaming video cameras for amazing BTS video of the shoot.
Being located next to Birmingham Airport gives us fast & easy access to the whole of the EU & further afield if needed. We have worked in New York, Marrakesh, Paphos, Berlin, London, Paris, Nice & many other amazing places
In truth, anything that needs a camera. Our website is aimed towards the fashion portrait side of photography. This means everything from ‘Look books’, adverts, product shots, commercials, book covers, headshots, lifestyle and beauty images, but, we regularly shoot bands, landscapes, weddings, funerals, 360 images & drone aerial work. Pretty much everything in all honesty. Over the years there is not much we have not photographed.

We know what we are doing – last year Dave was a visiting lecturer at Wolverhampton Uni & is currently a Fujifilm X-Photographer. Regularly published and quoted in the Photographic press in such magazines as Digital Photographer. Alongside with Peli UK, we are sponsored by, endorsed by & worked with many amazing companies such as 3 Legged Thing, Cactus Flash, Adobe (Photoshop & Lightroom), Domke, Billingham, Fotospeed, TrekPac, Roundflash.
We work quickly & efficiently. We have pretty good pricing & a high level of attention to detail.
Our digital proofing & delivery system is something we are also quite proud of. Once the capture stage of your shoot has happened, we have your images backed up & uploaded on your ‘private & passworded’ client area. Using our website you can preview, comment, rank and order images from the leisure of your own office or home. Once your images are ready (after the digital proofing stage), you can just click download and your images arrive via a ‘zipped’ file from our servers.
No, but, what I mean by this is – you WILL get to see all the images that reflect the shoot. We will not upload any images that didn’t work out. Such as bad frames, lighting test images of people blinking etc. From here which images you have is up to you or the agreement we had pre-shoot. To access your images, log to the client area – www.davekaipiper.com/client – Here you can download the images or print the images.
From our end – this is something we have never had to do for a commercial shoot. This is our job and we take your time just as serious as our time. However, if your shoot is weather dependent or has other elements that go beyond our control then re-shoots are our first option if we can not delay or move the time of the shoot on the same day. We never book more than one shoot in per day – even if the shoot is a short day. Over the years we have learnt that we need to be flexible with our timings to ensure we get the right environment to shoot with.
If you need to cancel for any reason – just let us know and we can work it out.
This is all a question about licensing and we can accommodate any request – In short if you want total exclusive usage of the images you commission us to make – that’s fine – even if you want to sell the usage on. As long as we know upfront we can make sure you get the images to use in the way you want to use them.
Lucky enough to say this has never really happened – but life is such that this is something that will one day happen. In that case what happens ? If I am ill or unwell, most likely I will know a few days before. Giving us time to work around any problems. This goes with models too – we only work with agency talent to ensure your shoot gets the dedication & level of support you are paying for.
You can choose – we offer two rates. Our ‘in house’ rate or we can work with someone external if budget & time allows. If you want to check out our work – have a watch of this video below which shows a timelapse of a beauty edit. Also – if you are wondering about our workflow – check out this link which is about the digital workflow we use to process your images :
In the UK, which is where we are based, by right the photographer owns the copyright to the images. This is not something unique to our business – but to any creative person. When a company hires us to create an image or artwork – we still own the copyright to that work. The way artists & content creators work is to give the commissioner usage rights to the work. We either use a single usage agreement or a multi year useage agreement. These can either be commercial or non-commercial depending on the needs of the image and where it is going to be used or displayed.

This can come down to budget & the amount of production that the shoot has. The higher the production the faster a shoot can take place as there is likely to be more staff on set looking after all the details. Things like extra models, separate people for hair and make up and a good styling team can be the difference from a good shoot to an amazing shoot.
Knowing the final outcome can also be a key element to knowing how long a shoot will take. For example – do you need the front, back & both sides for your website or just a front and back image. Things like a detailed shoot plan can be another key element in a smooth shoot. Things like Pintrest are great for styling concepts but working on an order in which to shoot garments & making sure the styling is thought through pre-shoot day will save tons of time on the day.
These ideas of production & planning go into all elements of photography – not just fashion & commercial lookbooks. Investing time pre-shoot will only benefit when it’s time to turn the lights on & shoot.
Sure, Just get in touch and we can arrange all the details – but we are happy to conduct a portrait shoot wherever you wish. Infact, if there are young or older family members we would recommend coming to you anyway.
At the moment I am teaching photography at Wolverhampton University, but, I do offer one to one workshops & group events. Bags & Luggage:
We are big fans of social media & fully encourage every effort to promote and maximise the audience of the images.
We would just add that you tag us on which ever media you use:
We sure do ! Just drop us a note to say hello or hit us up on Facebook.
When you message us – there are a few things we would love to know.
Totally – we work with some of the best people in the game today. We can build a team for you to suit your needs and your budget.
To give you a rough idea of costs for a basic shoot:
We can provide models from every level & every budget. We work alongside the best modelling agencies & are happy to do the groundwork for you to do the final casting.
We honestly think the best way to prepare is to work out what the final goals are and work backwards together from there. All of our clients – big or small have a shoot document. This document has all the final styling and shoot prep info on it – it’s a document that will evolve from the first contact point, shoot times, location, styling detail and all the other info as we confirm details for the shoot. We have found that over the years the more questions that are asked – the more phone calls made & the more communication we have the better the final images are.
Again – something that has never happened – but if that is the case, then together we go back to see what the prep document was like and track down where we went off the path. This just highlights why good prep is key ! If you are really unhappy – then we locate the reason – work it out and re-shoot to correct whatever the problem was. I would guess that most cases can be solved with the magic of Photoshop 99 times out of 100.
When it comes down to it – this is a question of how important is your brand to you.
Things like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter are the most powerful way to share the message that you create. This puts photography front and centre in your marketing. If you’re proud of your brand & want to showcase all that hard work then why would you use something someone else can just download and use too ? Plus, if you have designed your products why would you not give the same level of attention to how the world sees them as to when you created them.
Geoff Harris, Editor, Digital Camera, 2009-2015
Dave Kai Piper is one of the most interesting and creative portrait photographers I have met in my 15 plus years in the UK photographic industry. Dave is very technically ‘on it’ but wears his considerable skill lightly, and very much emphasises feeling and creativity as well as pure technique. He’s an inspired teacher, funny, kind and stimulating, and I simply love his work.
Nigel Atherton, Group Editor, Time Inc
Dave is one of the most enthusiastic and talented young photographers working in the UK today. His passion for portraiture is matched by a great eye, a feel for light, and an easy rapport with his models that enables him to capture their beauty and sensuality. Above all he’s incredibly prolific – he never seems to stop taking photos, and is always eager to try out the next new camera or accessory.
Ray Fitchett (Regional Manager) SIGMA Imaging (UK) Ltd.
Dave Kai-Piper the founder and owner of Ideas & Images is an extraordinary dynamic young photographer who has already made an impact with his work and his writing. Dave has developed a good relationship with several companies – and has selected and uses a range of SIGMA lenses in his day to day work. Over the past few years he has worked with both SIGMA UK and SIGMA USA and produced stunning images that we now use on occasion in our corporate PR & marketing. Dave is happy to take time out from his own creative photo business to teach and demonstrate his techniques at Photo Events and Camera Clubs. The added benefit is that along with his partner Stephanie Rebello (Pro Model) they can source and manage models and make-up artists and control either for a few hours or a full days shoot. They tailor the tuition and presentation to the group size and capabilities of the attendees offering a stimulating and value for money experience.
Matt Hart – Fuji X- Photographer
I have worked with Dave at a lot of events over the last few years, and his enthusiasm and passion for the industry never ceases to amaze me. He works very hard to create some amazing images and always has time to talk to everyone at events about his work.
Herb Nestler (Partner, Graf & Nestler GbR (training, executive coaching, consulting, translation and voice-overs))
Dave Kai Piper is an outstanding photographer whose sense of light, composition, storytelling and ability to collaborate with others leads to a fabulous product whether he is holding the camera or directing others. I have had the pleasure of being coached by him, also in post-production where he is undoubtedly the best I have ever personally seen. As his company name says, he has great IDEAS and makes stunning IMAGES..
Mark Evans (Systems architect at Fujitsu)
I employed Dave as a Photographic coach and mentor. As well as his deep knowledge he has a great deal of creativity and patience. My photographic skills have come on a vast amount taking me not just to the next level but several levels higher.
