An interview with Purpleport
It was great to walk into WH Smith this week and pick up a copy of the Amateur Photographer magazine to see my recent article on an ever growing website called Purpleport. For those who have never heard of the site, it is a community of photographers, models, make up artists and anyone else with an interest in the industry. As they approach the 23k active member mark we dive into the world of Purpleport and explore all that it has to offer and speak a little about how the site works. We also had a chance to sit down with Russ Freeman the creator of Purpleport and ask how the site came to be and what has made it the way it is today.

Amateur Photographer magazine is the world’s best-selling, longest-running consumer weekly photographic magazine, first published in October 1884. Since then, AP (as it is affectionately known to its readers) has been the bible for both amateur and professional photo-enthusiasts around the world. It has helped generations of photographers to improve their skills.

Alongside the article we have some incredible images which are just a small fraction of the work displayed on the site by models and photographers. It is a booming community that is ever growing with more and more people joining every day from around the world. With so many different styles I did question how as a community everyone gets along in the forums. I spent some time exploring the forums and joining in with group discussions, I found it to be very supportive and even though from time to time the odd characters didn’t quite get along, over all the forums are a very friendly and open minded place.
I just want to say thank you to Russ Freeman and the team at Purpleport for giving me the time to conduct my interview and research into the site and thank you for providing such an enjoyable and educational service.
