Mallory Knox – Album Shoot
Images from my shoot with Mallory Knox as we shoot the artwork for the ‘Signals’ Album. Shot using the Fuji X-Pro on location in the UK
A while ago I had a call from Wolf at your Door records asking if I would like to shoot a band for them. The band was Mallory Knox and these are the photos from the day I spent with the lads in their home town in the UK.
We had a rough brief to shoot to, but as things do, locations changed and concepts changed too. We ended up with some amazing stuff for the Deluxe version of the ‘Signals’ Album.
My lighting set up was super light weight. I was shooting everything on the Fuji X-Pro using a mix of Zeiss lens and Fuji. The images above were shot on the 60mm at about f5.6 1/125th at iso 200. The sun was coming though the leaves giving a pretty interesting look on the background that we strung up against the tress.
On the way to the shoot I stopped of and pick up a sheet we could turn into some kind of natural studio using tress. It turned out that a space under a massive trees was perfect, but in a church field.. we set up and shot pretty quickly.
After the shoot under the trees we had the idea to shoot something by the train tracks to tie in with the ‘Signal’s title of the album. Below is another shot that featured in the album artwork. Some digital tricks were used to bring the high bank that the train rode on down to give the image a little more sky and in line with the path.
As for the lighting set up, I used speedlighting in the for of a SB900 which did get blown over and smashed, but I had a back up Godox flash which did save the day. I used the Apollo Orb and Pocket Wizard tt5 on the Fuji X-Pro. My trusty 3 legged thing was there to hold everything together as always.
Not sure who it was that hijacked my spare camera… but it looks like fun was had ! If you wish to check out more of Mallory Knox you can click this link to the album on spotify. Mallory Knox – Signals (Deluxe Edition)
