Sea of Brass (British Sea Power & Derwent Brass)
Iconic band British Sea Power were playing with a brass band he plays with and they wanted me to come down and document the whole thing, how fun!! It was was an amazing night, one the most powerful live music events I have been to. Thank you for inviting me and giving me such great access.
SEA OF BRASS – ‘Nearly two years in the making, we are pleased to finally announce an exciting new commission for British Sea Power, “Sea of Brass”, which combines BSP live alongside championship 28-piece Brass Bands from all around the UK. Peter Wraight (Matthew Herbert Big Band) has created bespoke brass parts to accompany a selection of BSP songs from BSPs entire catalogue.’

You can find all the images from the sound check and gig here (link) The shots below were photographed during final sound & lighting check while both bands where rehearsing pior to the gig in Derby Theatre.
One of the joys of shooting this gig was how perfect the lighting was. After all it was a theater, so I guess it was to be expected ! I found access to the lighting desk that hangs over the seats just after the shot below was taken abut 2 mins before stepping out in front of a sold out crowd.
The set up for the portraits:
as the location for the gig was a theatre there was so much room stage left and right. We set up the 170 deep Octa on the heavy duty tripod and added the grid + double panel diffusion panels.
The portraits were all shot with the Nikon D800 & Sigma 105mm lens@
- ISO 100
- 1/125th @ f13
- Edited in Lightroom
