Summer Candy – Beauty Shoot / Dreamingless Magazine
In the last few years I have started to move from colour to shooting more nior, Newton-style black and white image, so, we thought a shot with a splash of colour would be fun.
Shot for: Dreamingless Magazine
Photographer: Dave Kai Piper
Beauty & Hair: Penny Grimley
Model: Rachel Bowler @ Alan Sharman
Assisted: Stephie Rebello, Fraser Pond & Amber Scarisbrick
Close up detail image of Penny’s amazing make up:
Nars Sheer Glow foundation
Sleek eye palettes
Mac Soft & Gentle on cheeks
Mac lipsticks – Different lipsticks on different shots.
The backgrounds where a mix of hand painted boards and wall paper just sellotaped to the wall behind Rachel. Lighting was created using a very large and very close Ocatabox. and on the other side we just had a naked bulb to add the highlights and mix the hard light and soft light. Huge thank you to the staff at the Hare & Hounds for letting use a couple of rooms for a day. The rolls of wallpaper came from Homebase & thank you to Stephie who hand painted the yellow & blue backgrounds. Thank you to Fraser & Amber for lending a hand on the day too.
As always, I shot these using the Fuji X Pro 2, but unlike normal, I shot everything on the 50-140mm – A lens I am totally becoming to love in every way. I am still hoping that Fujifilm bring out and update to let me shoot tethered with the X-Pro 2 just like the X-T2, but maybe I just might have to switch cameras when shooting beauty shoots like this. Even with the screens being amazing on the camera, giving a screen attached to the computer can let the makeup artist or lighting team work on their jobs while I can worry about shooting. Shooting teathered is not just a ‘cool’ thing to have – for many shoots and many sets it is part of the whole workflow – this is very true with such shoots as this.
