A few months ago I was contacted by Fashion Student & Stylist Anastasia Andrew ( http://www.anastasiaandrew.com ). The theme for this shoot was a Helmet Newton themed fashion shoot around a couple of concept image shot in Long Beach (below).
One of the reasons I do admire Mr Newton’s work is that it is not all about sex or in fact nudity. The aspect of style and story is very strong with his work and this is something I admire and try and show.
Our aim was to recreate this vibe around a modern setting of London’s busy streets.
While taking elements from Newton, we rolled some aspects around to make our own images. One thing that sprang to mind was how hard it was to get the motion needed and the shutter speed low enough with no filters to get the movement needed. Cameras today are so good, so sharp that, for me, these images are a little clean, but, I wanted to keep them out of Photoshop so, all images are processed only using Lightroom. I did mock up some edits where digital noise was added, but in the end I did prefer these shots. Maybe I should re-do something like this and use film.
Later the same day, after the city / day shoot we wanted to create some more images to extend the story. All images are below.
