Wet Look & Glossy Make up with Kari Roberts
Recently I have been very interested in shooting the super glossy ‘wet look’ make up and jumped at the chance at shooting with Kari Roberts. I did a whole bunch of research on Pintrest and it seems like a bit of an upcoming trend. This was our mood board for the shoot.
The lighting set up was pretty simple and consisted of a single cactus speed light with a rear light from a 400w Trinity strobe. The Cactus was modified using a Roundflash, which has been a pretty trusted set up of late.
I had always wanted to shoot a set of images using a reflector as a backdrop, so, we thought it would be great to combine the wet look make up and the super shiny back drop for a few images. The image below was using the gold side, which the rest of the images using the silver side.
If you want to watch the editing video of one of the images being ‘photoshoped’ you can do so just below. Most of the editing was to smooth out the skin then just a simple curves and tone changes mostly using the colour look up tables and curves finished the image off. All of the images are done in pretty much the same way but using different LUT’s for each image. If you want to know more about LUT’s just post below and if enough people want a video I might be make one !
Oh, huge thank you to James from Not tonight and the Headaches for letting me use ‘Reasons to Smile’ as the soundtrack for my video. Check them out here
To get the super glossy skin we used Johnsons & Johnsons Baby Oil, but the Gel version. After you let the gel settle into the skin for a while you get a nice sheen but with out the harshness that the normal oil gives you.
I used my Nikon D800 & the Sigma 70-200mm for these shots.
These next few images I have decided to share in a number of edits, as a rule I would urge people to never ‘colour pop’ but, I really quite like how these look – I have posted both versions so let me know what you think in the comments below. As always click on the images and you can see them in a much higher res via my Smug Mug account.
